The Apple record and the end of an era

The recent Apple record of dethroning Microsoft in terms of market capitalisation, besides important financial aspects, also has an exceptional symbolic value: it can be considered the official end of an era: the end of the PC era.
The PC era started with the bulky and expensive IBM PC desktops and continued with what seemed to be the everlasting reign of Microsoft.
The huge success of Apple mobile devices, like the iPhone and recently the iPad, combined with the increasing success of the Android platform, completely changed the meaning of what a personal computer is, and switched the focus from computers to devices.
The post-PC era will no longer be dominated by ‘computers’ in the classical understanding of the word (as desktops), the post-PC era will be the era of mobile devices, the era of smart, interconnected devices. The era of wireless, the era of cloud computing, and who knows what else.
The post-PC era will be an interesting era. Talk about it in, let’s say, 10 years from now?
