feedly – reading news utility

feedly-icon-100Reading news is generally a time consuming task, and any help, including syndicating feeds, is welcomed.

There are many solutions for reading news feeds, either on-line or with dedicated local applications.

feedly

feedly is probably the world’s leader, claiming more than 15 million users. What I found remarkably was not only the nice look of their reader, but the unusual fact that exactly the same look was offered both via the web interface and the local OS X application:

feedly-web

Access feedly via the web browser.

feedly-app

Use the local application.

feedly account

The list of feeds subscriptions is stored on the cloud, which is very convenient, allowing easy and consistent access from multiple computers and platforms. It also simplifies management, since it relieves the user from nasty migration pains, for example when reinstalling the computer from scratch, when otherwise an export/import would be required.

For this great mechanism to work, as for any cloud service, you need to create a feedly account, but for regular users this is free, so, unless you suffer from extreme NSA paranoia, there should be no problem to do it.

How to get the OS X app?

feedly is available from AppStore.
